With the constant changes that occur in both the techniques and materials involved in dentistry, it is very important to maintain knowledge of the latest developments. We do this through our constant participation in Continuing Education programs, so that you will always receive the best care possible.
Dr. Carl Papa D.D.S., M.A.G.D., P.C.
Dr. Carl Papa graduated with honors from Wayne State University in 1974 and was a Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Papa also played varsity tennis for four years at Wayne State. Dr. Papa graduated from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in 1979. During his senior year, he was elected class president. For the past 17 years, Dr. Papa has been a member of one of the leading service organizations in our community, the Kiwanis Club of Shorewood. He has served as president, secretary for six years, and many years as a director. Dr. Papa takes numerous continuing education courses all over the country. He holds memberships in the Macomb Dental Society, the Michigan Dental Association, the American Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Papa is also a member of the International Dental Health Foundation. In 1987, Dr. Papa was elected president of the Macomb Dental Society. He had previously served on the board of directors and as club treasurer. He received his fellowship award (F.A.G.D.) from the Academy of General Dentistry in 1989.
Only 1% of all dentists ever to practice have received the coveted mastership award (M.A.G.D.) from the Academy of General Dentistry. To receive this distinction, over 400 hours of hands-on continuing education must be taken in all areas of general dentistry. Dr. Papa received his mastership award (M.A.G.D.) from the Academy of General Dentistry in 2008. Dr. Papa has also received the America's Top Dentists recognition several times.
Dr. Papa is married to Laurie and they have two children, Carl III, born in 1989, and Rebecca, born in 1991.
Alicia
Alicia is a 1998 graduate from Lake Shore High School. She successfully completed the two year dental assistant program. The clinical area of the office is headed up by Alicia. Much of the laboratory work done in the office is handled by her. She had taken numerous continuing education courses in Orthodontics, oral surgery, and cosmetic temporization. Outside of work, Alicia enjoys exercising, attending sporting events, and walking her pug dog.
Shawn
My name is Shawn. I graduated from Roseville High School in 1998 and completed the dental assistant program at Dr. Papa's since 1998. I work as a full time receptionist and lead the team in the non-clinical areas of the practice. I married my husband Tom in 2003. We have three beautiful boys and and a precious little girl.
Lisa
Hello! My name is Lisa, and I have been a dental assistant for four and a half years. I am a very hard worker and always strive to get the job done correctly. I truly enjoy working alongside Dr. Papa. He is a kind and personable man, down to earth with thirty years experience. Dr. Papa and all our staff sincerely care about your oral care. I have two wonderful kids that fulfill my life. In addition, I enjoy watching sports and survivor with my boyfriend, riding on the back of his Harley across the U.S., going out to eat, and spending time with my family. In the future, I hope you will consider our office to help you in all of your dental needs.
Sandy
Hello, my name is Sandy, one of Doctor Papa's dental hygienists. I graduated from the University of Detroit in 1974. I came to Dr. Papa's office in October 1989. I am married to my husband, Dave, and we have two children, Christopher and Amy. Our son is married, and both of our children are working and living out of state.
Carl Papa III
A May 2008 graduate of Brother Rice High School, Carl is ecstatic to come to work everyday! What else would he do? Serving in his second summer employment at the Doc's, Carl enjoys coming to work, scrubbing instruments, and has fun joking around with everyone in his vicinity. Carl transferred from U of M this past winter, and he currently attends Loyola Chicago. Carl enjoys pool, tennis, golf, foosball, ping pong, and football as summer activities. He adores the Wings, Tigers, Pistons, and Steelers. He is building a Dan Cleary wood carving while not at work or in class.
Anna
I first met Dr. Papa as a patient in March of 2001. Shawn, my best friend since Kindergarten, convinced me to come in for a cleaning. I was terrified of the dentist's office and had refused to go for several years. My first appointment was wonderful! For the first time, I was happy to be at the dentist. Shortly after that appointment, Dr. Papa needed an additional staff member and as fate would have it- I was in desperate need of a good job. On August 10, 2001, I started the best job ever! Working here is fun, there is never a dull moment. Through my years of working with Dr. Papa, I have been able to learn about dentistry, insurance, and customer service. The experience that I have gained is priceless.
Devon
My name is Devon, and I have been working with Dr. Papa since June 2006. In my junior year of high school at Lake Shore, I took dental classes. In my senior year, I applied for a co-op position and was hired. In 2007, I was hired as a full-time employee. I enjoy my job and the people that I work with. I have learned so much about being a dental assistant, as well as the front desk duties.
Jennifer
My name is Jennifer. I attended Lake Shore High School and took a dental course for two years. During the summer of 2008, I started working at Dr. Papa's office as a co-op student my senior year. My goal in working here is to become a full time dental assistant. I really enjoy working for Dr. Papa. I love the environment and being able to start my career so soon.
Heather
My name is Heather. I have been working for Dr. Papa since January 2003. I started off as a dental assisting co-op. In June 2003, I graduated from Lake Shore High School and started working as a full time assistant. I immediately gained boatloads of experience through doing a lot of hands on and on the job training. My fiancee Chris and I are expecting our first child in August 2009. We are expecting a baby girl and will be naming her Brooke Addison. We are both very excited for her arrival.
Marie
I started working for Dr. Papa as a dental hygienist after graduation from the University of Michigan in 1982. I have three daughters who are all swimmers. I enjoy cooking, swimming, and spending time with my family. Chances are that on most days, you will find me at a swim meet with one of my daughters or at other after school activities.
Julie
A graduate of Ferris State University, Julie has been working alongside Dr. Papa for the past 21 years, beginning as an assistant and eventually matriculating into the role of dental hygienist. Recently married, she enjoys spending time with her husband as they participate in a myriad of outdoor activities.
